So I figured I'd make this thread since Pokemon X and Y are the most connected games in the whole series! It's easier than ever to battle and trade with others now so here's a thread for any battling, trading or discussion of the game.

3DS: 2492-4610-0457
Here's my 3DS friend code, right now I'm trying to Masuda Method hatch a shiny goomy so I can't battle but I should warn you when I'm ready I'm pretty competitive!

I don't have any shinies to offer to trade but I have a few pokemon like honedge and goomy with good natures and IVs from breeding

I'm looking for a Honedge with good Def/SpDef/Attack IVs (25 or better) and Adamant Nature.

As far as what I can offer: I can get Frogadier, Braixen, and Wartortle from my Friend Safari that I can offer. I can't promise any IV or nature spreads, but I can at least try for their hidden abilities if that helps at all.

If you can get your hands on a spare Ditto so that I can join in on the Matsuda Method shenanigans, that'd be awesome.

Also, do you know of anyone that can get their hands on hidden Quilladin or Charmeleon?

My friend code is in the OP of the general ID thread.

EDIT: My Safari contributions have gotten back to me as being pretty badass. I offer Fire-type with Larvesta, Growlithe, and Ninetales.

I have a handful of above average honedges however they are brave nature since I preferred that for mine, I think it'd be better with aegislah's ability. However I can try to breed for an adamant and improve the IVs at the same time with based destiny knot. It'd be great to get a protean froakie

I'm actually using a japanese goomy for my masuda method but if i should try to get my hands on a jap ditto soon and maybe i can give one away if i get more than one.

I would prefer the Adamant because I don't plan on going with any Special moves, and it needs all of the speed it can get because 60 is pretty shitty.

Here are some sets I've been kicking around:

Aegislash @Life Orb
Adamant/Jolly
178 Attack
178 Speed
160 HP
Iron Head, Shadow Claw, King's Shield, Swords Dance

Doublade @Eviolite
Adamant/Jolly
252 Attack
252 Speed
4 HP
Fury Cutter, Iron Head, Protect, Autotomize/Swords Dance

I can swing a Frogadier for you, but I'm not making any promises on being able to pass Protean through breeding. The percentages of the father passing hidden abilities haven't been confirmed aside from the fact that it can happen. Female starters are fairly rare (12%) and getting the hidden ability isn't exactly easy, short of carrying Trace (which I do on my Gardevoir).

As long as you're breeding the father with a ditto, it's about a 1 in 3 chance based off how my breeding of Venipede went. Trying to breed same species won't work at all, since then the female must have the ability. ;)

I don't see how breeding to another species with the hidden ability would trigger it in the child. It just doesn't make sense to be able to mate a female Serperior with Boostiken to pop out a Contrivy (just spitballing, I don't know if they're comptible).

If that IS the case, December better roll around quickly so I can get my coveted steamroller.

Nope. That won't work at all. I tried breeding my Male Whirlipede wtih Speed Boost with a Female that didn't. Not one egg came with it. Switched the female with Ditto, and about one in three came with Speed Boost.

Speaking of which.. I have a few remaining adamant male Venipedes with Speed Boost left.

By how the breeding mechanics work.. yes. Remember that Venipede and Whirlipede class as different species, which is reflected in the breeding speeds.

I'm going to assume that Ditto will always assume a "father" role in breeding mechanics, thus a Male Pokémon will then be the mother.. And only a mother Pokémon may pass their hidden ability down.

The "Ditto as father" theory doesn't hold water very well. If it's paired with a male with passable moves, the child will inherit them, whereas (last I was aware) females don't.

As for my theory, I'm talking a different species of a different evolution line. For example, a hidden Roggenrola father with a Geodude mother. Would Roggy be able to pass the flag for his hidden ability?

I'll claim one of those, thank you. Unfortunately, I'm not far enough into the game that I can breed effectively.

Oh, yeah, speaking of friendcodes. Don't we already have a thread for that? Maybe we can concentrate on general discussion and trading in this thread then?

There's a major change in the Gen VI breeding mechanics. Females can now pass on egg moves too now. Oh, and I've seen an example of this happening too.

I don't believe so, afaik anyway.

Indeed. But posting it here too could help shortlist who has Pokémon X/Y.

I'm gonna have to see the female passing moves for myself... Something like that is just weird to me... Not that the fact that she could only pass moves if the child learned them by level, and if the father knew it too, made a whole lot of sense either.

In other news, I started Y and decided I would go for a Star Fox themed team. Fennekin as Fox (actually named McCloud), Froakie as Slippy, Bunnelby as Peppy, and [I can't decide] as Falco. My other two slots will be filled with Hawlucha and Lapras as HM slaves.

My progress on Y is as such: I'm in Lumiose City, just about to fight Sycamore for my Kanto starter that I plan to immediately box.

My team plan is under reconsideration. I'm keeping Braixen and Frogadier, but dropping my name theme. My team thus far is:

McCloud (Braixen) lv 17
Slippy (Frogadier, will be renamed in Camphrier when I get there) lv 16
Flora (Flabebe, orange) lv 11

I want to catch a Skiddo, but I don't know if I should replace Flora or run them both.

As for my findings with Slippy, between him and his three brothers, only he inherited Protean... And none of them got their dad's Ice Beam or Power-up Punch. Did they remove TM inheritance since TMs are infinite and to counter HM workarounds via egg moves? I'm confused.

I noticed that myself. TM moves learnt via level-up inherited, but not ones that had to be taught via TM.

However, I am aware of a bunch of old Pokémon having acquired new egg moves. Just no lists of confirmed moves so far. :x

Even if the safari doesn't yield gemstones of Pokémon, you can't rule out the fact that the safari Pokémon are guaranteed to have one or two perfect IVs.

And with how good Smeargle is for passing egg moves (in one egg group), that's a decent chance to then pass some good IVs down. :)

Ugh, I really need to get myself a 3DS but I need to save up for a new computer.

Ever since I lost my original few handhelds, I haven't played Pokemon since Gen3. One of these days, it'll take over part of my life. hehe, I remember really enjoying Pokemon and X and Y have brought up some good things I've been hearing about. I suppose for the moment I'll just be on the sidelines. I entered in a contest to get the game + a 3DS but instead won Curse subscription. :P

At least I won something.

Well, today added the 1.2 patch to the eShop for downloading. The patch fixes a couple of exploits by changing the internet connection method, which also makes the patch required for online play now.

At least nobody can exploit online battles and know in advance what you're doing.

Patching out Instacheck was a terrible idea. It was used for so many more legitimate things than cheating on battles.
