I've been looking all over the new forum management panel thing and I can't figure out how these things work. Can anyone explain it to me?

First page lets you add categories or forums (you need to have categories set up before adding forums).

The page for adding/editing categories has two main parts. First part is for the general parameters, second part is for the permissions related to the category.

The page for adding/deleting forums works mostly the same way, except it has two other parts. One for adding local moderators, and one for adding thread tags.

'Local moderators' are users that will be listed as moderating the forum on the index page. This feature is purely visual and doesn't actually give permissions to the users added.

Thread tags, well, see the ROM hacking forums on this very board.

If anything in particular is unclear, let us know.

Well nevermind, I thought you were talking about the forum editor, until I saw the thread title.

Well, I don't think there's an interface for managing badges. I don't even know if they actually show up somewhere. All I know is that there are related tables in the database, try putting stuff in there and see what happens I guess...

Emuz

Emuz has two, so I guess I'll just look around the databases!

I actually made a badge editor of sorts, although it was never fully finished and actually never was uploaded anywhere. A shame but oh well.

And yeah, in my test build I even separated perm badges from regular badges but the display on profiles was still WIP for my intentions a year back.

Perm badges are badges that curl your hair, right? ^_~

I don't appear to have any badges.

Badges have no admin interface and are considered 'incomplete'. You can add badges to people directly in the SQL tables. I don't remember if the stable branch ships with badges in the main.sql file or if it was after I split it up. If so you need to import the badges sql file too. (There are Kafuka specific however)

In the plans there will be an editor as well as having the badges have effects.

I recall testing a badge that could modify sprite chances of appearing (rare/general appearance) and something like a coin bonus that was temporarily that you could buy.

Still have the code actually.

I found the user_badges table but how do I use it? I just sort of want to try it out, out of curiosity.

From what I remember, in PMA you basically insert a row where `badge` is the id of the badge you want from the main badges table and `user` is the id of the user. The other columns aren't important unless its a special badge and the name column I don't think was properly implemented.

At least, that's what it looks with my copy.
