Yeah, the default login cookie is set such that if your IP changes too much, it will refuse to work. I can imagine scenarios where it would help with security, but I personally don't think it does much.

Not to mention, Java and Flash are big security holes (I'd actually prefer Silverlight if it were cross platform :P) HTML5 is definitely the way to go for online video and animation, though

Java wins bonus points for cross-platform compatibility by standard. Code in another language, go compile a load of various versions. Oh. Then each one might need code tweaks specific to each OS you compile for..

So Java has another advantage going for it there.
