Depending on the theoretical method used to destroy the sun, it could easily result in the formation of a black hole, or more likely a super nova type event that would at the least toast the earth on that lightest of settings. Than you have gravity changes, heat loss, oh yeah and there would be people panicking.. oh boy. Now I didn't answer why.. as I have no idea, but maybe for the lulz? Yeah, this is just general relativity. But this is a black hole with the same size of the Sun, so it would have a much higher mass since black holes are every dense.
