SSD's are a exception though, due to the fact it's faster to write to "cleared memory" (technically the memory HAVE to be clear to be even written to). So after you delete a file, the OS (anything more recent than Win Vista) sends the TRIM command to the relevant sectors which pretty much actually deletes the actual file content. Just cause it's faster on SSD's to do it that way unlike the typical magnetic drives that most still use. For more info about TRIM, check out this wiki article.

I am at 30 posts per page, 100 per forum currently.

On the old Acmlm's board I used to do 100 posts per page, 100 threads per forum for a while. I widdled it down some over time..

I used to have it way way higher too (I think it was 50 posts per page?), but I kept myself to the default after the first incarnation of Acmlm board went belly up.

Google does a lot of projects at the same time, so I wouldn't be quick to shoot it down. Some are failures (Google waves), others have it's fans but still have a mild reception (Google+) while others manages to be really successful (Gmail).

I'm kind of hoping Google succeeds with their endeavors into ISP space to put pressure into a increasingly stale market filled with Oligopoly. Of course, Google better not abuse their dominating position too much...

The fact that the demo rom runs in Nestopia (and probably will work on a real console) is making me very happy as I said earlier. As it means I can play it on a real NES with a powerpak too.

Probably the way upvote/downvoting works on slashdot compared to... let say reedit. But this is for really huge forums. For smaller more specialized forums, a voting system on posts is a bad idea.

Civ V have been pretty addicting the last few weeks thanks to the gods and kings expansion that improved the games tonnes. I admittedly give the religions i found really silly names too , but I'm giving that game a rest now. And I been playing the Day-z mod for ARMA2. I still play TF2 plenty though, it's my third most played in the last few weeks.

The Nintendo Polystation is probably a cheap console with "NES on a chip". Those crappy knockoff consoles are very inaccurate, to the point that you're better off using a emulator (even average emulators).

1996 or 1997 is when we first got dial-up Internet. Honestly it was so long ago i forgot exactly when. It was a 56K(?) dial up modem on a 486 from late 1994.
