would it be possible with the current system to make it so that if one user were to catch a certain sprite several times, the chances of them appearing would significantly decrease?

I say this because I'd like to find ways to make this system more mercyful without necessarily ruining the current concept of overly_rare_sprites.

For a couple years, I've used some cheap pair of earphones I bought from my local store. They were pretty good. Recently they finally broke, so I've been looking for a replacement. I tried to buy more of the same I bought intially, but the newer models have bizarre sound quality that just sounds.. bad.
The kind of earphone I've been looking for happens to be classic earphones, as in the not-intra-auricular kind. The name difference is pretty ambiguous, so there's not a wide selection to choose from online.

So I tried to buy some of the top-rated earphones I could find online, and to my dismay, they all suck. Right now, only one of them is barely a pass. The sound quality is fine, there's only one issue: bass boost.
I don't know why this has become a standard. There's literally no option without it. The bass boost goes too far and no matter how much of quality the earphones might be, it doesn't sound right. Vocals sound distant and I cannot enjoy my music without the bass drilling my ears. I cannot judge how things are supposed to sound while remixing either, so that hobby's come to a halt. I need a replacement and I need it to be good.

My ears are pretty sensitive, so I'm picky about my my gear when it comes to listening. I cannot go with intra-auricular earphones (I tried) because I cannot put up with having stuff directly in my ear canal, and the intense vibration is no good. Add to that the overall inconvenience, and I'm gonna have to pass. That leaves either classic earphones, or headphones. I've exhausted the former, so I suppose only the latter remains.

I rarely use headphones, so I'm clueless of what to look for. I'm not trusting reviews a second time after how the mess with earphones was, hence the reason I made this thread.
I'd like to know what you use right now or have used, and what you would recommend. Earphones and headphones of any type are fine, so long as they sound good and aren't bass-boosted. I can try to put up with those in-ear monstruosities so long as they sounds good.

Any suggestions are welcome.

So, my mother needs a new Windows laptop and I'm.. not sure where to start.

Ideally I'd like to find a PC that's built to last, for a fair price. I have no specs requirements, but we do have other requirements:

-a large keyboard (has to cover most of the surface). this is the most importance factor
-3 usb ports minimum
-the keyboard has to not be black. this one's not a hard requirement, what's important is that the keyboard is easily readable by someone with bad vision. black on white is easier to read.

and optionally,
-has a dvd drive.

I'd like some advice if you have any ideas. Thanks~

Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Unfortunately, I failed to deliver some key details. Sorry about that.

-It has to be a PC. Nothing we can do about it, as my mother's been using Windows 7 for years. I plan to grab a Windows 10 and windows7ify it as much as possible.
-The laptop doesn't have to be white, rather it just has to not be black. This is due to black keyboards being less readable.
-We're not very stingy with the price. 1000 is fine for a laptop meant to last.

I updated the first post with these details.

I ended up going for a laptop roughly about ~500€. I gave up on going for a white laptop that fit our specifications as it was well above a thousand.
I'm pretty satisfied with my pick. Grey color, 3 usb ports, a resolution fit for someone older, and a dvd drive to boot.

Also, I checked out all your suggestions. They're quite interesting, maybe we should do a Recommended Hardware thread sometime.

Hey.

Is this place still alive?

I've been reading this recent thread on jul and I have very mixed feelings about it. In a way, I was there. More or less. I lurked around Acmlmboards back in the day, once when I was a kid and once again when I discovered Kafuka. Yet reading this I can't help but feel a massive rush of "missed out on a golden era".

But what really got me was this:
Posted by Xkeeper
whether you fit in or not is always up to you, but the one thing i feel about that matter is that i don't want this place to actively push someone away or make people uncomfortable. if someone doesn't feel like they fit, that's fine and expected; some people and places are just incompatible.

Some place and some people. That's the norm.
What troubles me is that I don't fit anywhere. I never have. And I don't know what to do at this point, besides ranting.

From the beginning of my life up til now, I've been separated from everybody. Sheltered, isolated, clueless and awkward. I lack the "common sense" others have, as well as any kind of sense that's relevant in a social setting. I've missed out on years of social practice I should've experienced.

Both IRL and online, I'm an outsider to every circle I've delved in. It's like outsider syndrome, except more concrete, proven through experience to not be a delusion on my part.
What everybody else has shared, I have missed out on. What little I have been part of, I have screwed up. Notably, I've screwed my chances with various people in various ways.

I'm tired of this. I'm tired of always playing charades, always putting a facade towards people in fear of annoying them. Tired of being unable to communicate normally.
I'm tired of belonging to nowhere, to noone, to nothing. Tired of amounting to nothing, tired of knowing nothing, tired of being unable to do anything. Tired of BEING nothing.

That's it for the rant. Long story short, I don't know what to do. I don't know what others actually see me as. All I've been doing is covering the core problem with a facade of "everything is fine, things will pan out over time". I've failed enough as it is, it's high time I address the issue.

So, here I am again. Whether you have any advice to give, please tell me this. In your own words. What am I to you?
Does anything I did bear any meaning? ..and just, what should I do?

What is an underrated mammal?

Humans. They underestimate their potential and sit on their laurels, sticking to conventions and powering a failing system. Or maybe they just fail to grasp it. One can fail at many things.

I value people, moreso than society.

I'd say interest for sites like this isn't completely dead, considering a few things:

-People still come by despite knowing they're not going to find much of anything new. It may take time, be it months or even years, but people often eventually return, just like I did today.
-Everyone is still starved for entertainment and many miss the "old internet" that had all of its soul sucked away by social media. That is to say, autonomous communities like this with their own flavor and quirks.

What this website lacks is retention and, well, activity. If we could all agree to meet on a certain date to throw a party or whatever, we'd have a start.

It's hard to deny that, individually, sites like Kafuka fell out of relevancy. But if people keep coming anyway, even if it's just to lurk for a few moments, then you've got a small chance. You just gotta take it.

Pardon me but... you forgot to answer some questions

I chose to ignore them due to my being unable to answer them.
I'm not a TV/movies person, so 90% of references fly way above my head. This, incidentally, makes me unable to answer to most posts from Danielle.

Here's what happens when I do answer:

What is the greatest Saturday Night Live skit?

Never seen a single one I think? I've only seen a few skits overall, and I can't remember who they were from. Might be multiple people, I just know that at some point I took a mental note of "hey I should check this comedian's past skits at some point they're legit entertaining" and then promptly forgetting who that comedian was.

strangest billboard you've seen?

The subway where I live has tons of ad billboards, I don't recall seeing one that really stood out. I've got hella bad memory tho, so even if I did I must've forgotten

What device are you using to post here?

My laptop! Firefox on Win10, the stereotypical setup. I used to use Pale Moon, but I migrated to firefox (my alt browser at the time) after I'd racked up too many tabs and wanted to "deal with them later".

Windows 11 can kiss my ass

How many strips of meat can you eat?

Had to look up what a "strip of meat" is.

I honestly have no idea. When I do eat red meat it's almost always steak, and of those I could eat a whole bunch if I didn't care about my health.
I try not to eat more than one steak a week, this makes the negative health effects basically null if my science is right.
